Did you grow up wishing the school you went to every day looked more like a fairytale palace? No? Well, this Russian billionaire sure did and when he became rich
enough to afford it, he actually turned his old school into a grand palace, complete with gilded(镀金的)walls, marble floors and even a water fountain. Walking in to the 106 Secondary School in Yekaterinburg after its recent renovation(翻新), you couldn’t be blamed for thinking you’d been magically transported to a French Baroque palace like Versailles. With golden chandeliers(枝形吊灯)hanging from the ceiling, gilded decorations covering the walls and marble floors, it certainly looks nothing like a school dating back to the 1940s. That’s thanks to the generous donation of a former student named Andrei Simanovsky who grew up to become a successful businessman.
Interestingly, the renovation of the school is only in its early stages, with just the ground floor corridor and toilets having been completed. The director's office and classrooms for elementary school students are still being renovated, and Simanovsky wants to renovate the upper floors as well as the gymnasium and the outdoor school grounds, if local authorities agree.
There hasn't been any opposition from local officials so far. After several Yekaterinburg designers and bloggers said the renovation project was too grand for a children’s school and used too much gold, mayor()Alexander Vysokinsky defended Simanovsky's plan. saying that at least he' s doing something for the school.
The billionaire' s plan was backed up by school officials who said that “the interest has increased for parents, children and teachers. The excitement is growing. Everyone wants to go to our school”.
24. Why did Andrei Simanovsky have his former school renovated? A. To show off his abundant wealth. B. To make the school widely known.
C
For more than 60 years,Lego bricks have activated children's imagination. Now,a new version of these toys is in the works. They're Lego Braille Bricks, and they're being tested around the world.
Lego Braille Bricks are designed to help people learn Braille ,a system of writing in which letters are represented by raised dots.People who are blind use their fingertips to read it.

that. The small knobs(疙瘩)on the bricks are arranged as Braille letters.Blind children can use these knobs to learn Braille.
Lego plans to put Braille Bricks into the market next year. The Danish Association of the Blind was one of the first organization to come up with the idea of using Lego Bricks to teach Braille.Thorkild Olesen is the president of the group.Olesen is blind. He says many teachers don’t have the tools and skills to help kids learn Braille. So they teach with audio(有声的)tools, such as audio books.”Like any other people,we need to express ourselves in writing,”Olesen says.”Audio is great, but Braille is the single most important tool for us to learn to spell correctly, write, and gain literacy like sighted people.”
In 2011, Olesen' s organization shared its idea for Braille Bricks with the Lego Foundation:Olesen explained to the toy maker that the knobs on Legos are similar to Braille Letters.Stine Storm is a project manager at the Lego Foundation. She liked the idea of turning Lego bricks into a learning tool.Lego Braille Bricks will also have printed letters on them that match the Braille letters. That way, sighted children can play with the Legos along with blind children. \"

Electric vehicles make up a small percentage (about 1.5%) of overall car sales worldwide. But 2018 saw a big jump (74%)in international sales. And the market is expected to grow quickly in coming years,Each of these electric vehicles will require a battery to power it---sometimes more than one.Electric car batteries become less effective over time and need to be replaced. Most major car makers guarantee good battery performance for only about eight years.
So,one American company has found an unusual way to reuse the batteries that electric vehicles are no longer using. The company, called Eaton, is a large supplier of truck parts and industrial products to businesses all over the world. Eaton is also an energy storage company. It takes aging batteries—which it calls \" second-life batteries”---from Nissan’s electric Leaf vehicles. The company then reuses them with its xStorage product, which stores power in buildings.
Eaton is now in talks with several European football teams. They' re discussing using electric batteries to help power their stadiums. Eaton has already equipped a major stadium in the Netherlands with such a system. The project was completed at Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam. The stadium holds about ,000 people and is home to the country’s Ajax football team. The company also recently completed an energy storage system at Norway's Bislett Stadium in Oslo. This stadium is partly powered by solar energy.
“The football stadium community is interested,” Eaton vice president Craig
McDonnell said. “From significant ones, we're talking with five to six stadiums in Europe. ”
Eaton says it expects the used battery market to grow up to 20 times by 2022.In Europe, the Middle East and Africa,it believes the possible market value could reach $2.3 billion by 2025.

A.How to Give Old Electric Car Batteries a New Look B. New Way to Lengthen Battery Life Has Been Found C.Waste Battery Management----Revolution in Electric Vehicles D.Old Electric Car Batteries Used to Power Football Stadiums

As a child in, Cambodia ,life was difficult. It went from bad to worse when my mother got sick. My father left us to make money. I never saw him after that.
My nightmares began when my poor mother couldn't move half of her body. At the age of six, I had to cook,
clean and beg for nee. To make things easier, my mom sent my sister and one of my brothers to live with relatives in another village. I was the oldest, so I stayed ;
my mother needed me to take care of her and my baby brother, Long.
For a while it was just Long, my mother, and I. But then my brother was very sick and skinny. One day I came home and Long wasn't there. My mom said she' d given him away to someone who said they could take care of him. I knew it must have been difficult for her. We both hoped that he9 d be safe and healthy. My mom and I went on with our lives. We cared about each other very much. One afternoon, about a year after Long left, we received some good news. A man from the city came to our village and told us that a family in the United States had adopted my baby brother. He showed us pictures. My brother, now named Shane, was smiling, wearing nice clothes, and looking very healthy. Even though we missed him and life was hard for us, my mom and I were so happy to know that my brother was okay.
Weeks later, my mother passed away. One day the man who had brought the pictures of my baby brother came to visit again. He asked if I' d like to be adopted by the family who adopted my brother. Even though I didn’t know what to expect, I said yes.
The day I left Cambodia I was filled with emotions. I was eager, worried, upset, and confused because I didn't know where I was going and I' d never been on a plane before. All I remember about my trip was that I threw up for most of the 21-hour flight. After I walked out of the airport, I saw a strange old man waving at me in the distance. I also saw a little boy next to him. I knew immediately it was my brother.
