1. Not more expensive cars ---- it will be cheap to travel everywhere by plane, not only over land, but also over the sea or even into space.

not only…but also… 意为“不仅…而且”

She is not only beautiful, but also kind. 她不仅漂亮而且善良。

【拓展】 as well as not only…but also…

(1) 两个短语都有“不仅…而且” 的意思，但是强调的成分不同。as well as 强调的重点是前部分，not only…but also…则强调后部分

(2)两个短语在连接两个名词或代词做主语时，谓语动词的用法不同。在as well as中，谓语动词要和第一个名词或代词的人称和数保持一致，而not only…but also…中，谓语动词则要和后面的名词或代词的人称和数一致。

I as well as you am a teacher. 你是一位教师，我也是一位教师。

Not only I but also you are a teacher. 不仅我是一位教师，你也是一位教师。

on the air 意为“播送，广播”，在句中作状语、定语或表语。

The news is on the air. 正在播新闻。

There is a sense of excitement in the air. 到处都充满了兴奋。

海平面也会上升。

句中as well 意为“也，又”，经常用于句尾。
